Immigration for International Students

As of January 1, 2015, potential candidates interested in applying to the Canadian Experience Class must go through the Express Entry System

Express Entry is used to manage applications for permanent residence under these federal economic immigration programs:

     • The Federal Skilled Worker Program

     • The Federal Skilled Trades Program

     • The Canadian Experience Class

Potential candidates complete an online Express Entry profile to provide information about their skills, work experience, language ability, education and other details. According to those factors, candidates will be ranked and those who have highest – rankings in the pool will be invited to apply for permanent residence.

In order to be invited for Permanent Resident Application, candidates need to get score higher than 450.

Jack, a young, single professional with one university degree and 1 year working experience in Canada has the following scores:

For Jack to get score higher than 400, he needs to obtain IELTS (7, 7, 8, 7) or has 3 years working experience.

Different Provincials have different policies in terms of keeping what their market needs, international students are welcomed to apply for PNP once they graduated and get a job offer.

     • Have an approved permanent, fulltime job offer

     • The job offer is in NOC0, A or B and meet the entry – level wage for that position

     • Graduated from or have met the requirements of a full – time degree or diploma program at an eligible publicly – funded Canadian college or university that is at least 2 years in length or a one year post graduate certificate program

     • Completed at least half of their studies in Canada

     • Apply within 2 years of graduation

Advantage:

     • No previous working experience required

     • Short processing time (8 – 10 months)

Disadvantage:

     • Not at liberty to leave the job before approval

International Students with Master of PhD degree obtained in an Ontario Public University are welcomed to apply for the paper based Provincial Nominee Program immediately after graduation.
